What’s Your Dosha?

a dosha is your mind-body type

One of the most unique and practical aspects of Ayurveda is the idea of doshas. A dosha is your mind-body type — the pattern of energy that influences how you look, feel, and respond to the world around you. Think of it as your personal operating system: it shapes everything from your digestion and sleep, to your moods, energy levels, and even how you handle stress.

There are three primary doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Vata is linked with movement — quick, creative, changeable, but prone to restlessness, worry or dryness when out of balance. Pitta relates to fire and transformation — sharp, driven, and focused, though sometimes tipped toward irritation, inflammation or overheating. Kapha is connected to earth and water — steady, nurturing, and resilient, but occasionally heavy or sluggish when imbalanced. From these three primary doshas, there are seven possible combinations that can contribute to your unique constitution

Understanding your dosha is powerful because it offers a personalized approach to wellness. Instead of a one-size-fits-all routine, diet and exercise plans, Ayurveda helps you choose foods, self-care practices, and treatments that keep your system in balance. For example, someone with a Pitta constitution might benefit from cooling foods and calming rituals, while someone with more Kapha energy might thrive on energizing movement and lighter meals.

Curious to discover your own dosha? At One Tribe Yoga & Wellness, we offer Ayurvedic consultations and guided quizzes to help you identify your unique constitution. When you understand your dosha, you gain a roadmap for creating balance in every season of your life.
