“suffering for a cause? Now that’s something I can get behind.”

This March, I’m celebrating 50 years of life. 50 years of family, friendships, love, challenges, and adventure.

And what better way to celebrate than by riding my bike all the way around a massive volcano… for “fun?” (Clearly, I make questionable life choices.)

Kerri and I are heading to Maui to visit some of the most amazing people on the planet—my Aunt and Uncle, Libby & Rich. Like Kerri and I, they couldn’t have kids of their own, but when they made Maui their home, life had a bigger plan.

They adopted Ryan, a boy  in need of more care and attention than most. But that didn’t stop Libby and Rich from welcoming him into our family. And thank God they did. Ryan is a force. Often called ‘Mr. Mahalo”! A light. A presence you don’t forget. If you’re from Maui, you probably know exactly who I’m talking about. He has a way of leaving a positive mark everywhere he goes, and to him, everyone is family. Through music, sports, games, and community, Libby and Rich have given Ryan the chance to be as human as he can be—safe, loved, and excited to wake up every day. Every child deserves this. And I am so incredibly proud and grateful that Libby and Rich gave Ryan this kind of abundant, joyful childhood.

The Special Olympics carries this torch fully for all the kids in their programs, giving them opportunities to thrive, connect, and experience the joy of movement, competition, and community.

Originally, I planned this epic ride around Haleakalā for myself. A personal challenge to mark my 50th year. And sure, maybe I’d get some ‘likes’ and ‘wows’ for doing something crazy again. But then I realized… riding 100 miles up and around a volcano alone? That’s just pain. Suffering for no reason.

But suffering for a cause? Now that’s something I can get behind.

I’m riding to celebrate every moment, every person, and every challenge that has shaped me—including you. I’m riding for Kerri, for everything she endured with me through my own battles of addiction. I’m riding for my parents, my sister Jess, and every single person who believed in me even when I struggled to believe in myself.

And I’m riding for Ryan & the kids he competes with. For the bottomless energy, excitement, and joy that he brings to everything he does. For the love and relentless dedication of his parents, and for every family with a special needs child who works tirelessly to give them opportunities, connection, and a reason to wake up excited for life.

This ride will ask everything from me. More than I’ve ever given. So I’m asking for your help.

Join me. Let’s give back to the Special Olympics of Maui and the Hawaiian Islands, an organization that flies these athletes across the islands, organizes competitions, and ensures they get the chance to thrive.

For the next two weeks, a donation link is in my bio. Whatever you give, One Tribe will match it.
